Going for galleries with Gianluigi Masucci, an artist friend who spent a few days of vacation. His work is complex and challenging and spending time talking to him it’s always enjoyable and energizing. In Italy, more than once our works were featured together in art projects, then he moved abroad, but we stayed in touch, and a few times we get caught on the street, in Naples, when he was there for a short holiday, and greeted, exchanged few words, promising to plan a real meeting and find time to work together. I love this kind of things, these chance encounters that are more intense of a planned “coffee”. When he and his girlfriend came to London we took a tour of galleries, starting from Paolo Bini: in South Kensington and then we walked and talked, as we would do in our city, but here all of us were in a new place and the energy that ran among us was different.

We compared London to Naples and Geneva, where they live now; we reflected on the different “human density” that is perceived on the streets and how it affects the artist work. Gianluigi exclaims: “I’m in the studio when I create” and I replied: “Me too! But even while locked up, I create differently depending on what I know is happening just outside.” Needless to tell you that they would like to move here for a while. What there is in London that we like so much? I have a list as long as a blog.

Andare per mostre con Gianluigi Masucci, un amico artista che ha trascorso qui alcuni giorni di vacanza. Il suo lavoro è complesso e stimolante e stare un po’ di tempo a parlare con lui è sempre piacevole ed energizzante. In Italia ci siamo trovati più di una volta a lavorare fianco a fianco in progetti d’arte, poi lui si è trasferito all’estero, ma siamo rimasti in contatto e un paio di volte ci siamo beccati per strada, a Napoli, quando lui tornava per una breve vacanza, e ci salutavamo, scambiavamo due battute, ci ripromettevamo che dovevamo vederci con calma e magari lavorare un po’ insieme. Sono cose bellissime, questi incontri fortuiti ma più intensi di un caffè pianificato. Quando lui e la sua ragazza sono venuti a Londra ci siamo fatti un giro per gallerie, partendo da quella di Paolo Bini: Everard Read a South Kensington e poi abbiamo camminato e parlato, come avremmo fatto nella nostra città, ma qui eravamo tutti in un posto più o meno nuovo e l’energia che correva tra di noi era diversa. Paragonavamo Londra a Napoli e a Ginevra, dove vivono adesso; riflettevamo sulla differente densità umana che si percepisce per strada e quanto questo possa inluire o meno sul lavoro di un artista. Gianluigi esclama: “Io sto nell’atelier quando creo” e io “Anch’io! Ma anche stando chiusa dentro, creo diversamente a seconda di ciò che so sta accadendo appena fuori!”. Inutile che vi dica che vorrebbero trasferirsi qui per un po’. Cosa avrà questa Londra che ci piace tanto? Io ho un elenco lungo un blog.
